The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party is demanding clarification from the Regional Government of Madeira about its decision not to proceed with the transfer of the former Educational Centre, located in Santo da Serra. This demand follows indications from the Minister of Justice, Rita Júdice, that the Madeiran executive no longer intends to acquire the property.
JPP Member of Parliament to the Assembly of the Republic, Filipe Sousa, points to a contradiction with the region's previously stated position and questions the reasons behind the change. Sousa recalls that in 2016, the Legislative Assembly of Madeira approved a resolution recommending the transfer of the building to regional authority, and questions the "inconsistency in decisions" ten years later.
The JPP seeks to understand the Regional Government's current strategy for the property, what solution has been proposed, and on what technical, scientific, and social grounds the decision to cease claiming its transfer was made. The party believes the public should be informed about this change of position, particularly as the former Educational Centre, closed since 2013, represents an asset built with an investment of approximately 10 million euros and is currently in a state of disrepair.
