The JPP party traveled to Tenerife at the invitation of the European Democratic Party (EDP) to consolidate a working front with its MEPs. The aim is to secure increased European Union support for the Outermost Regions (ORs), with a particular focus on the maritime mobility of people and goods.
During a conference on the future Multiannual Financial Framework, JPP highlighted the need for Brussels to recognize that the territorial continuity of the ORs depends on regular, accessible, and competitive maritime links. Proposals were presented to strengthen European maritime transport support mechanisms, including the establishment of a "maritime highway" for Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) connections.
The party also argues that the next European budget should deepen the POSEI program and create measures to offset the additional costs of insularity, considering maritime transport a factor in Madeira's loss of competitiveness. The political openness shown by EDP MEPs aims to transform these proposals into concrete initiatives within European institutions.
