The Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party has reiterated its request for clarification from the Regional Government concerning aquaculture activity in Baía d'Abra, Caniçal. Although the economic operator has formally communicated the withdrawal of all production by July 14th, confirming the closure of the operation, the PS raises new questions. They inquire about an environmental impact assessment for over 30 years of activity, the fate of the equipment handed over to the government, and whether taxpayers will cover waste disposal costs.
Furthermore, the party demands to know why a conflict of use identified in the National Maritime Spatial Planning Plan in 2019 only began to be resolved years later, with the delayed decision not to renew the concession. The PS criticizes the lack of justification for the unviability of the relocation agreed upon in 2019 and seeks clarification on the technical reasons that prevented this solution and the delay in ceasing operations.
