The JPP considers the ferry link a matter of "extreme relevance" for the region's mobility and development, emphasizing the State's duty to ensure territorial continuity through public service obligations. The party criticizes what it deems a "transformation of governmental political action into mere propaganda announcements" regarding the ferry dossier.
The party recalls that the ferry link was a campaign flag for Miguel Albuquerque in 2014, but that the fervor "faded as soon as he came to power." The JPP points to the "zigzag" of PSD, CDS, and PS on the issue, mentioning promises by António Costa and the unilateral termination of a contract by Empresa de Navegação Madeirense in 2018. The party further criticizes that the public tender to resume the link was replaced by a feasibility study, in which the IMT reportedly heard only one shipping company.
