PS-M Criticizes Interior Minister for Delay in PSP Police Station Construction in RAM

PS-M accuses the Interior Minister of ignorance and disrespect for municipal autonomy in the construction of new PSP police stations.

The president of PS-M, Célia Pessegueiro, criticized the stance of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, regarding the construction of new PSP police stations in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM).

According to Pessegueiro, the minister's recent visit to the region showed a "profound lack of knowledge" of the institutional agreements already established between the Ministry and Madeira's municipalities. PS-M regrets that the minister ignored the steps already consolidated with the Machico municipality, which presented a new location for the police station at the beginning of 2026.

The socialist leader considers the minister's "institutional arrogance" unacceptable for not formally inviting the Mayor of Machico to accompany the official visit, showing a lack of consideration for municipal collaboration. PS-M emphasizes that, with the exception of Porto Santo, all processes for new PSP facilities in Madeira depend on direct partnerships with municipalities, citing the examples of Santa Cruz and Ponta do Sol, where projects are already advanced.

Célia Pessegueiro also criticized the "constant interference" of the Regional Government, which announces "possible solutions" for the new police stations when the processes are already being handled directly between the municipalities and the MAI. The Machico municipality recently carried out improvements to the current PSP building to ensure dignified operational conditions until a definitive solution is implemented.
