Filipe Sousa, a deputy from Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), has introduced a bill in the Assembly of the Republic intended to strengthen the protection of agricultural and food producers.
The initiative establishes the principle that no one should be forced to sell their produce for less than the effective production cost, aiming to combat value destruction within the agri-food chain.
The proposal includes requirements for written and transparent contracts, clear pricing rules, and protection against discounts and promotions. For micro and small producers, a simplified method for calculating effective costs is foreseen.
A new aspect of the proposal is the explicit consideration of additional costs incurred due to insularity and ultra-peripherality, such as transport, logistics, and energy, which the JPP deems a matter of territorial justice.
