The Secretary-General of Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), Élvio Sousa, stated that the party, the Region, and the people of Madeira are counting on European allies for the return of the ferry service to the Madeira-mainland route.
This statement followed a working meeting with Sandro Gozi, Secretary-General of the European Democratic Party (EDP) and Member of the European Parliament for Renew Europe, who visited the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The meeting, jointly organized by JPP and EDP, focused on analyzing the European Commission's new strategy for Outermost Regions and seeking solutions for pressing issues such as maritime transport, housing, agriculture, environment, energy, and the cost of living.
The JPP views this approach as strategic and forward-looking, aiming to strengthen its role as a governing alternative and ensure that regional problems are elevated to European causes. The cooperation aims to broaden the scope of Article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and address the challenges of a future JPP government, with an emphasis on maritime connectivity and the ferry alternative.
