A scene of impatience in a queue at the Civil Registry Office sparked a debate about lawyers' priority service. An indignant citizen questioned the prerogative of a lawyer who went to the counter, claiming such a right only existed in courts.
However, legislation, specifically Article 79, paragraph 2, of the Lawyers' Association Statute, confirms that lawyers and trainees, in the exercise of their profession, have priority service in any public service. This rule aims to ensure the speed of justice and the defense of citizens' rights represented by lawyers, who often deal with tight legal deadlines.
The law also provides priority service for other professions, such as solicitors and enforcement agents, as well as specific arrangements for people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.
