The Liberal Initiative (IL) has expressed deep indignation over what it deems a "gross and intentional breach" of a recently approved law by the Republican Government.
According to the IL, it is unacceptable that beneficiaries of the territorial continuity mechanism are still prevented from exercising rights granted by the new law, such as the elimination of maximum limits and the widespread use of CTT (Portuguese Post). Deputy Gonçalo Maia Camelo stated that, despite difficulties with electronic platforms, the law provides for alternative reimbursement mechanisms, like the continuation of CTT services, which the Government is reportedly refusing to implement.
The IL considers this situation inadmissible in a Democratic State of Law, where a law approved by Parliament cannot be suspended due to governmental unwillingness, especially when it materializes fundamental rights. The party calls for urgent intervention from the President of the Republic to restore legality, arguing that the people of Madeira and the Azores should not be subjected to this "immoral and illegal treatment."
