Low back pain and other chronic back problems are the most frequent health complaints among the population residing in Madeira aged 15 and over. According to the results of the 2025 National Health Survey, released by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), these conditions affect 30.3% of respondents.
Hypertension (26.0%) and high cholesterol (22.9%) also rank among the most common chronic diseases in the region. These figures confirm the growing prevalence of pathologies associated with an ageing population and cardiovascular risk factors.
The survey also revealed that 60.9% of residents had consulted a dentist in the 12 months prior to the interview. More than half of the population (53.8%) rated their oral health as good or very good, while 12.1% classified it as bad or very bad.
