A team from the Regional Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LREC) has gone to the North Coast of Madeira, in São Vicente, to continue identifying and assessing geological risk points. The intervention aims to monitor the slope above the VR2, near the recent landslide that partially blocked the Via Expresso.
The new monitoring plan includes identifying new fissures, fractures, and unstable blocks on the hillside. Later, data will be collected for 3D modeling to simulate rock fall trajectories and identify potential impact zones.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the Regional Government to mitigate geological risks and protect road infrastructure on the island, with previous investments made in various areas of Madeira.
