Madeira and Azores Parliament Presidents Advocate Constitutional Review, Criticize Regional Finance Law

The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Rubina Leal, met with her counterpart from the Azores, Luís Garcia, to discuss strengthening institutional cooperation and deepening regional autonomy.

Both advocated for the need to review the Constitution and amend the Regional Finance Law, criticizing the extended timeline set for the presentation of the working group's report on the matter, which they deem urgent for the island regions.

The presidents of the regional parliaments also addressed the Territorial Mobility Mechanism, considering that the current model penalizes island and outermost regions, limiting a constitutionally enshrined right.
