Madeira: Building and Housing Permits Up in H1, but Completed Construction Decreases

In the first half of 2026, Madeira licensed 330 buildings, a 19.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Of the total works licensed, 246 were new constructions, accounting for 74.5%, with 225 designated for family housing.

The licensing of new residential constructions resulted in 718 housing units, a 27.5% growth from the 563 licensed in the first half of 2025.

However, data on completed works show an opposite trend. 188 buildings were finished, a 1.6% decrease from the same period in 2025. The decline is more pronounced in the number of completed family housing units, which dropped by 16.5%, with 414 units finalized compared to 496 the previous year.
