Madeira Government Council Approves Fuel Support, Land Acquisitions, and School Funding

The Madeira Regional Government Council approved measures concerning fuel prices, land acquisition, expropriations, school cooperation, merit awards, and tax benefits.

The Madeira Regional Government Council convened this Wednesday, approving a new framework for exceptional and temporary support to offset rising fuel prices.

These measures target the public passenger transport sector, humanitarian fire associations, the Portuguese Red Cross, the Madeira Maritime Aid Association (Sanas), and private social solidarity institutions (IPSS). Furthermore, temporary aid will be provided to bakery industry companies and commercial establishments on Porto Santo island that source raw materials from Madeira island.

The council also authorized land acquisitions for access and safety infrastructure, declared public utility for expropriations needed for a regularization and channeling project in Curral das Freiras, and approved cooperation agreements with Salesian colleges and Externato Júlio Dinis for operational costs and school social action.

Finally, program contracts were authorized to award merit prizes to agricultural producers at the Porto Moniz Agricultural Fairs, in partnership with various farmer associations.
