Government Assures Travel Reimbursement Issues Are Technical

The Portuguese Government has stated that the current issues with the electronic platform for travel reimbursements between islands and the mainland are technical. These problems have arisen following changes made to the Territorial Continuity Mechanism.

State services are currently adapting the platform to comply with the modifications introduced by Law No. 23/2026, dated June 1st. The government has also extended the transitional period for the Territorial Continuity Mechanism, formerly known as the Social Mobility Subsidy, until June 30, 2027.

The platform is now processing reimbursement requests for tickets issued from June 6, 2026, onwards, without an upper eligibility limit. During the transitional period, CTT (Portuguese Post) continues to provide alternative channels for customer service and request processing.
