Madeira Has Technological Capacity to Investigate Deep Sea

Madeira's marine biodiversity monitoring program (BioMa), currently conducting dives up to 30 meters, is now aiming to explore the deep sea.

Researcher Pedro Neves from the Madeira Ocean Observatory highlighted the region's "technological capacity far superior to other regions," which will enable scientific investigations in largely unknown marine areas.

With recent acquisitions of equipment like remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous vehicles, it will be possible to gather valuable information on deep-sea habitats and communities previously unknown.
