Between April and June 2026, Madeira recorded approximately 3.5 million overnight stays, a 1.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The number of guests rose by 5.1% to 718,600. The main driver of this growth was the national market, which saw a 12.3% increase.
Data from INE, detailed by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira, indicate that overnight stays by residents in Portugal increased significantly, while those from foreign residents slightly decreased by 0.2%. The national market accounted for 18% of the region's total overnight stays.
Funchal concentrated 56.5% of overnight stays, with a year-on-year growth of 0.2%. Santa Cruz was the second municipality with the highest number of overnight stays. Ribeira Brava recorded the largest percentage increase at 19.5%.
By segment, the hotel sector saw a 1.8% decrease, while local accommodation grew by 10.5%. The average length of stay decreased from 4.51 to 4.37 nights.
