Independent deputy Miguel Castro advocated for concrete measures to ease fuel prices in the region and held the Regional Government responsible for its response to the rising cost of living.
During the debate on the PS proposal to reduce the ISP (excise tax on petroleum products), Castro acknowledged the importance of using fiscal autonomy instruments but stressed the need to understand the potential savings for families and businesses, the timing of the reduction, and its duration.
Castro raised doubts about the operationalization of initiatives presented by the PS and JPP, arguing that proposals should be accompanied by a financial assessment. He directed criticism at the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, stating that the absence of measures to mitigate price increases will be associated with his executive's "lack of political courage."
