The New Right party has criticized the suspension of plenary sessions in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira during August and September. The party argues this break leaves the Regional Government without effective parliamentary scrutiny for almost two months, despite a permanent committee remaining active for urgent matters.
The New Right contends that the absence of deputies constitutes a privilege incompatible with the constitutional principle of equality, as the public administration continues to operate year-round. Among its proposals is the temporary replacement of sitting deputies with alternates from their respective electoral lists, allowing the Assembly to remain fully operational.
The party also announced its intention to request a meeting with the President of the Legislative Assembly to present its proposals. Additionally, it has invited other parties without parliamentary representation to join an initiative to observe parliamentary proceedings during the recess.
