MP Paulo Neves has expressed concern over the European Commission's proposal to change the management of European Funds. The new approach suggests that negotiations for community funds for Outermost Regions (ORs) would occur directly between Brussels and their respective central governments, excluding regional governments.
Neves, elected for PSD/M to the Assembly of the Republic, described this proposal as a "regrettable centralist temptation" that "disregards the powers and legitimacy of the Outermost Regions" and constitutes a "serious setback." This statement was made during a hearing at the European Affairs Committee of the Assembly of the Republic, addressed to Minister Paulo Rangel.
