The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, sparked public discussion by advocating for the construction of buildings over 20 stories high in areas of Funchal, such as Ajuda, to address housing issues.

In response, former deputy Nuno Morna initiated an online petition addressed to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, calling for a broad debate on the matter and legislation to limit building height to a maximum of ten floors.

The petition has gathered over a thousand signatures, meeting the minimum requirement for consideration in a plenary session, according to the Legislative Assembly's Rules of Procedure, which stipulate that petitions signed by over a thousand identified citizens must be reviewed.
