The president of the Municipal Assembly of Porto Moniz, João Carlos Conceição, declared that the municipality "gained" with the recent change in the City Council presidency. During the solemn session commemorating the 191st anniversary of the municipality, Conceição highlighted Emanuel Câmara's tenure in the Assembly of the Republic and praised the leadership of the current mayor, Olavo Câmara.
Conceição acknowledged the "merit and excellent work" of the previous president but argued that the transition strengthened Porto Moniz's political representation on two fronts. "We gained an excellent deputy in the Assembly of the Republic," he said, referring to Emanuel Câmara, anticipating a positive impact for the people of Madeira. Locally, he highlighted the arrival of a young president, described as close to the population, energetic, and dynamic.
The president of the Municipal Assembly also addressed the difficulties faced by new generations, such as housing access and job insecurity, but emphasized that Porto Moniz is well-represented by young people in decision-making positions. He advocated for the consolidation of democracy and the reinforcement of regional Autonomy, warning against national policies that might not favor the deepening of Madeira's Autonomy.
