The PS municipal group in Funchal met with the Regional Nucleus of ACAPO (Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Portugal) to understand the daily difficulties faced by blind and visually impaired people in the municipality.
The party advocates for a transversal intervention that considers the concrete needs of these individuals, allowing them to move around, work, access culture, and fully participate in city life. They consider it fundamental to reinforce the training and awareness of municipal workers, especially those providing direct public service and those involved in transportation.
Identified concerns include architectural barriers, inadequate construction of ramps and accessible pathways, and the lack of audible signals at traffic lights. The PS argues that accessibility solutions should be designed and evaluated with the participation of blind individuals themselves.
The party also emphasizes that inclusion should encompass employment, culture, access to information, the use of new technologies, and full community participation, aiming to build a city where no one is left behind.
