Madeira's PS party calls for a review of rehabilitation ordinances to ensure access to care is determined by clinical needs, not patients' financial capacity.

PS Demands Review of Rehabilitation Ordinances to Ensure Access Based on Clinical Needs

PS deputies in Madeira are calling for the Regional Government to revise ordinances concerning Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. The aim is to ensure that access to care is based on patients' clinical needs, rather than their financial capacity.

The party states that the Executive's responses confirm concerns from users and professionals regarding the new rules, which impose a 20% co-payment on treatment costs. The PS argues that the Government has created barriers without demonstrating widespread abuse that would justify such a change.

The socialist party highlights that the increase in healthcare activity, with more beneficiaries and sessions, does not necessarily indicate abuse, but could reflect an aging population and a rise in chronic illnesses. The PS believes the new system, by centralizing access through a Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine consultation, introduces more steps, barriers, and costs for patients.
