The Socialist Party's Parliamentary Group has once again demanded clarifications from the Regional Government regarding aquaculture activities in Baía d'Abra, Caniçal. The socialists find the responses from the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries evasive and leaving essential questions unanswered.
Although the economic operator will remove all production by the 14th of this month, the PS questions whether an environmental assessment of the impacts caused by the operation over 30 years will be conducted, the fate of the aquaculture equipment, and if taxpayers will cover waste disposal costs.
The socialists also demand to know why a conflict situation identified in 2019 only began to be resolved years later, with the delayed decision not to renew the concession. The party further requests the identification of studies supporting the Government's claim of no marine environment effects over 30 years.
