The Socialist Party of Madeira (PS-M) met with the Union of the Electricity Production, Transport, and Distribution Sector of RAM to debate working conditions at the Madeira Electricity Company (EEM), the increase in electricity prices, fuel costs, and the company's exposure to international energy markets.
PS-M demands transparency regarding the evolution of EEM's costs and their relationship with tariffs borne by families and businesses. The socialist parliamentary group has submitted a series of questions to the regional secretary for Infrastructure and Equipment, seeking clarification on the costs of electricity production and acquisition, announced savings, and tariff updates.
The socialists aim to understand the monthly evolution of costs per MWh, comparing them with previous values and the assumptions of the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE). They also question the source of announced savings, such as renewable energy production and natural gas use, and the conditions for fuel acquisition. The party advocates for an investment strategy in renewable energies, storage, and network modernization to reduce exposure to international markets.
