The PS-Madeira party advocates for the Regional Government to implement measures to reduce the cost of living, starting with a decrease in VAT.

PS-Madeira Demands VAT Reduction and Measures to Lower Cost of Living

The president of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, stated that the Regional Government must not shirk its responsibilities and should take steps to lower the island's cost of living, suggesting a VAT reduction as a starting point.

In a press conference, Pessegueiro highlighted the growing difficulties faced by Madeirans due to inflation, impacting food, transport, housing, and loans. She criticized the regional executive's "complete inaction" and refusal to accept PS proposals, such as lowering VAT.

The socialist party argues that the Government's extraordinary revenues should be used to alleviate citizens' daily costs, citing the need to strengthen public transport to reduce reliance on private cars. PS-Madeira insists that tax reductions are within the competence of the Madeiran parliament and executive.
