PS wants Municipal Police in Funchal and challenges Council to announce progress on City Day

PS councilor in Funchal Municipal Council, Rui Caetano, has called on the executive led by Jorge Carvalho to proceed with the creation of a Municipal Police force.

Caetano suggests that the decision be announced during the City Day celebrations tomorrow, considering the existence of this police body a necessity for daily security and enforcement in Funchal.

The socialist argues that a permanent presence of municipal officers could deter petty crime, working in coordination with video surveillance and the PSP, and believes Funchal should not wait for national legislative changes, but advance within the current legal framework.

Beyond security, the PS points to traffic, parking, and support for event enforcement and coordination as areas where the Municipal Police could play a relevant role, contributing to the tranquility and quality of life for residents.
