Madeira's Chega Member of Parliament, Francisco Gomes, has requested the Court of Auditors and the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) to closely monitor the construction of the new Madeira Central and University Hospital.
Gomes argues that the project's financial scale and previously raised issues warrant continuous scrutiny of public funds. He questions the increase in the project's overall cost, which has risen from initial estimates of around 350 million euros to over 700 million euros currently.
The MP voiced concerns about potential fraud and misuse of public funds, suggesting the process might be designed to benefit specific companies and politicians. Gomes urged that every euro spent on the construction be audited, referencing previous interventions by the Court of Auditors that had raised questions about the project's legality and financial management.
