The Portuguese Labour Party (PTP) has asked the Regional Government to clarify whether residents without personal bank accounts can receive reimbursements through Madeira’s Territorial Continuity Mechanism, formerly the Social Mobility Allowance.
The PTP claims some beneficiaries are being blocked from applications because they cannot provide an IBAN for an account solely in their name, a requirement stemming from the platform's internal procedures. The party states this issue particularly impacts elderly residents receiving pensions via CTT postal orders and low-income social benefit recipients.
While cash reimbursements have been suggested, the PTP asserts the current system offers no alternative payment or collection methods through CTT. The party is calling for an urgent alternative payment procedure and clarification from the Regional Government.
