Public investment in housing in Madeira is set to continue beyond the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), utilizing the Regional Budget and programs like Madeira 2030 and the 1.º Direito initiative. This assurance was given by Pedro Rodrigues of PSD/Madeira during the party's Parliamentary Days.
Rodrigues noted that the region has approximately 130,000 housing units for about 95,000 households, estimating that seven thousand homes are currently off the market. Public housing constitutes roughly 4% of the regional housing stock.
The PSD advocates that increasing housing supply should not solely rely on the public sector, proposing incentives to attract private and cooperative investment, particularly in affordable housing. Projects in Santa Cruz were highlighted, with 80 units completed and another 22 in preparation.
