The PSD-Madeira parliamentary group has called for legislative changes to ensure Madeira residents can purchase goods and services online under conditions comparable to those enjoyed by consumers on mainland Portugal.
This proposal follows a meeting between PSD deputy Bruno Melim and the President of the Portuguese Competition Authority, where concerns were raised about national and European legislation that the party claims fails to reflect the realities of Portugal's autonomous island regions.
According to a statement, Bruno Melim highlighted significant shortcomings in the current legal framework, particularly regarding enforcement and sanctions against companies refusing to deliver to Madeira. He criticized online platforms offering different terms based on postcode, deeming such practices discriminatory and incompatible with the principles of the European Single Market.
