The Regional Government of Madeira and the Competition Authority (AdC) have initiated a new cycle of institutional proximity. The meeting addressed concerns regarding the discrimination of consumers from Madeira and Porto Santo in online purchases and the taxation of value-added calls.
Regional Secretary for Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, hosted AdC President Nuno Cunha Rodrigues to present the region's economic reality and strengthen dialogue. Rodrigues advocated for the elimination of discriminatory practices in internet shopping and for the VAT on value-added calls in Madeira to align with the regional rate, with revenues reverting to the Region.
Nuno Cunha Rodrigues highlighted the reinforcement of institutional dialogue as a priority and the importance of understanding the specificities of the regional economy. The AdC will focus its actions on sectors with the greatest impact on household budgets, arguing that increased competition leads to more choices, better prices, and quality. The visit included an invitation for public participation in an information session at Funchal City Hall.
