Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection Micaela Freitas has signed a funding contract with SANAS Madeira – the Madeira Association for Sea Rescue – reaffirming the region's commitment to coastal defence, surveillance and rescue.
The €68,000 grant will ensure the regular operation of the Coastal Rescue Station Network (RESCO), which forms part of the regional Civil Protection response system. The agreement takes effect on signing and runs until 31 December 2026.
At the signing, Freitas thanked the association for its support in past incidents, saying rescue must reach beyond land to the waters and coast. Board president Frederico Rezende stressed the importance of continuity and the association's full integration into regional Civil Protection.
