The Santa Cruz Municipal Council has issued close to 500 notices for land clearing so far this year, with summer well underway. A total of 321 cases of non-compliance have been recorded.
Other municipalities on the island, including Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, and Santana, have also identified areas requiring intervention to prevent forest fires.
