The recently presented Lazareto Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR) in Funchal has drawn criticism from some local residents. Although promoted as a modern solution to an old problem, residents report persistent bad odors and difficulties accessing the beach.
The infrastructure has divided opinions, with the Municipal Council stating that the issues are ongoing technical adjustments and that the odors are within normal parameters. However, residents feel the problem has not been fully resolved, merely relocated.
