Paulo Rodrigues, president of the Paul do Mar Parish Council, has clarified the situation at Praia da Quebrada after reports of a woman and child coming into contact with a sea anemone.
Rodrigues expressed sympathy for those affected but stressed that sea anemones are not exclusive to the beach, attaching themselves to rocky seabeds and indicating clean waters. Their presence does not mean the beach is dangerous or has poor water quality, though caution is advised in rocky areas, especially at low tide.
Existing information signs on the beach are being reinforced. "We cannot control nature, but we can remain vigilant, provide information and signage, and seek to be increasingly helpful to people," Rodrigues stated, urging responsible use and preservation of the area.
