Around 70% of Madeira residents aged 15 and older consulted a general practitioner in the 12 months preceding the interview. These findings come from the National Health Survey 2025 (INS 2025), with results released by the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM).
Of those who saw a family doctor, 27.0% had one consultation in the four weeks prior to the interview, and 5.0% had two or more. Access to other medical specialists was also significant, with 48.9% of the population consulting a specialist in the 12 months prior, while 42.4% had done so over a year ago.
The survey also covered prevention and screening. Approximately 78.7% of women aged 50 to 69 underwent mammograms in the two years prior. For colorectal cancer screening, 51.0% of the population aged 50 to 74 had a fecal occult blood test in the same period. Monitoring of cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors was also high, with 74.7% measuring blood pressure, 66.2% cholesterol, and 64.6% blood glucose.
