The Poncha Project Highlights Madeira's Lesser-Known Traditional Establishments

A community-led project aims to find the island's best poncha while boosting recognition for traditional venues off the main tourist paths.

The Poncha Project Highlights Madeira's Lesser-Known Traditional Establishments

The "The Poncha Project" is a personal, independent, and non-profit initiative dedicated to increasing the visibility of traditional Madeiran establishments by focusing on discovering the island's finest poncha.

The project originated from sharing photographs and informal poncha reviews on Instagram. As engagement grew, it became clear that a dedicated platform was needed for residents and visitors to discover, compare, and rate ponchas across Madeira.

An interactive map has been developed, featuring establishments already reviewed by the public. Any venue listed on Google Maps can be rated via the website, where users can upload photos, specify the poncha type, and assign a score. Registration is not required to participate.
