A torrential downpour hit Prazeres on Saturday afternoon, 31 October. The Portuguese Institute for Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) recorded 11.8 mm of rain in just ten minutes.
Between 16:31 and 17:30, the Prazeres station logged 27.1 mm, a total within the orange warning threshold. The Ponta do Sol/Lugar de Baixo station recorded 19 mm in one hour, within the yellow warning range but close to the orange threshold.
By 18:00 these were the only two IPMA stations on Madeira to reach warning levels. Twelve of the island's 18 stations recorded rain. A yellow warning was due from 21:00 on Saturday, followed by an orange warning from 00:00 to 09:00 on Sunday, 1 November.
