Socialist deputy Victor Freitas pointed to a "huge distance" between the Regional Government of Madeira and the Government of the Republic, using as an example the statements by the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Elsa Fernandes, regarding national exams.
Freitas had expected the secretary to defend Madeiran students and ensure they would not be disadvantaged by the central government. According to the deputy, this is another situation where Madeira feels harmed, forgotten, or ignored by Luís Montenegro's government, also citing education, the environment, funding for social housing, and transport.
The socialist parliamentarian also criticized the postponement of the regional finance law revision until 2029, despite a proposal being unanimously approved in the regional parliament, arguing that the national process will be lengthy.
