The Chega parliamentary group (CH) in the Assembly of the Republic has presented a draft resolution recommending the Government review the model for defining and applying airport taxes at airports in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores.
According to the party, the initiative aims to ensure that the specificities of the outermost regions are taken into account when setting the fees charged by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, preventing costs associated with island status from being aggravated by excessive airport charges.
Madeiran deputy Francisco Gomes stated that airport taxes directly impact airline costs and, consequently, the final ticket prices, affecting residents, students, displaced workers, and businesses. The proposal includes creating a specific tariff regime and enhancing transparency and oversight.
