The regional sections of the Court of Auditors (TdC) in Madeira and the Azores have had their specific competencies strengthened following the approval of legislative amendments in the Assembly of the Republic. These changes were proposed by Filipe Sousa, a deputy from Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP).
Under the amendment to Article 21, prior audit decisions will now be made by the judge of the Madeira Regional Section, which will also be competent to prepare and approve reports on regional accounts. The JPP emphasizes that the autonomy of these institutions is defended "in laws, in competencies, and in the effective decision-making capacity."
The JPP submitted a total of 44 legislative proposals, including changes to 40 articles. Another proposal related to Article 32 was also approved, and other solutions put forward by the JPP were adopted by the PSD during parliamentary review. Filipe Sousa highlighted that a deputy can represent "much more than a single vote when they work, present proposals, and manage to turn them into concrete results."
