Generator unloading at Funchal Port Fails Again

The unloading of generators destined for the Paul da Serra wind farm at Funchal Port has failed again this year, marking a recurring issue.

The ship carrying the special cargo had to leave the south quay of Pontinha and proceeded to the port of Caniçal. The operation, which incurs significant financial costs for pilots, tugboats, and port fees, is considered delicate and requires exceptionally calm waters.

Funchal Port has been phasing out such cargo operations, which are more commonly carried out in Caniçal, where land-based cranes offer greater stability. The shift to Caniçal means a longer journey for the special transport trucks.
