JPP criticized the PSD for rejecting a proposal to create a Regional Plan for Safeguarding Higher Education and Students in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira. The party believes the ISAL process highlighted weaknesses in public entities' response to a situation directly affecting students.
JPP argues that for many students, the issue was not just about available places at other institutions, but also about maintaining schedules compatible with professional and family life, benefiting from clear equivalencies, bearing the costs of relocation, and having timely information and stability to complete their studies.
The party also justified its vote against the final report of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission on ISAL, stating that the document "failed in the essential" by not placing students at the center of concerns. JPP feels it was not demonstrated how the Regional Government monitored the process or adequately assessed the response to affected families and students.
JPP had proposed a regional plan for future higher education crises in Madeira, including clear information, direct student support, institutional coordination, and a coordinated response. This initiative was rejected by the Social Democrat majority, which JPP views as a "political contradiction."
