The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has demanded clarification from the Regional Government of Madeira after the Court of Auditors (TC) refused, for the fifth consecutive time, to approve the accounts of the Madeira Social Security Institute (ISSM).
According to the JPP, this situation creates a "climate of distrust" and a "strong social impact," particularly for current and future pensioners. The party recalls that the Regional Section of Madeira of the TC refused to ratify the accounts for the years 2023 and 2024 due to "limitations identified by auditors" that prevent a "true and appropriate picture" of the ISSM's financial situation.
JPP president Lina Pereira questioned the level of trust Madeirans can place in Social Security and whether they can rely on their pensions. "It is this lack of transparency that scares people, and this is where the Regional Government must act, providing rigorous public clarifications," she stated.
The JPP assures it will assess the matter in a "responsible and transparent" manner to "clarify and reassure the population" and end the "lack of credibility in the financial situation of Social Security in Madeira."
