Filipe Sousa, a Member of Parliament for Juntos pelo Povo (JPP), has submitted a request to the Assembly of the Republic demanding urgent clarification from the Government about the accreditation of the Judicial Police's Scientific Police Laboratory (LPC/PJ).
The MP seeks to ascertain whether forensic analyses in genetics (DNA) and dactyloscopy are certified under the EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard and what implications may arise for judicial proceedings that might have relied on these analyses without specific accreditation. This action follows the rejection of a JPP proposal advocating for the accreditation of these activities.
Sousa warned that "citizens' trust in justice cannot exist in a state of uncertainty" and that a lack of accreditation could critically affect accusations, convictions, or acquittals. The request comprises 20 questions concerning the government's awareness of the situation, ongoing accreditation processes, the number of analyses conducted between 2015 and 2026, and their potential impact on legal cases.
