The JPP parliamentary group has proposed an "urgent review" of the Collaboration Protocol between the Regional Government and the Public Security Police (PSP). The aim is to update the amount of revenue from traffic violations, considered an "essential instrument" to strengthen the PSP's operational capabilities in Madeira.
According to MP Paulo Alves, the original protocol, signed in 2006, has supported investments in facilities, vehicle fleet, equipment, and technology. However, the JPP believes the amount foreseen in the 2019 protocol, over 1.2 million euros for 2025-2026, is "insufficient for the PSP's current real needs in RAM".
The JPP's parliamentary initiative recommends the Regional Government increase the PSP's share from the current 30% to 40% of fines collected in the Region. This reinforcement should be used for acquiring and renewing vehicles, equipment, technological means, infrastructure, and other essential investments for the PSP's operational activities.
