The Liberal Initiative (IL) commented on the seizure of dried 'gaiado' fish in Caniçal, advocating for the need to reconcile legal compliance with the preservation of this traditional practice.
The party believes that the tradition, linked to local history and economy, should not be treated as a clandestine activity. The IL demands that authorities clearly explain the legal conditions for the production and sale of 'gaiado', proposing clarification of rules, technical support, and, if necessary, adaptation of regulations for artisanal production.
The IL is closely monitoring discussions between the Regional Directorate of Fisheries and the Maritime Zone Command of Madeira, hoping for a concrete and swift solution for the affected professionals, emphasizing that food safety, legal compliance, and tradition are not incompatible objectives.
