Madeira Festival Highlights Island Culture in Central Lisbon

Madeira's culture, traditions, gastronomy, and crafts are being highlighted at the Jardim do Arco do Cego in Lisbon with the launch of the Madeira Festival. The event, promoted by the Avenidas Novas Parish Council, is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the autonomies of the Azores and Madeira Autonomous Regions.

The inauguration took place at 7:30 PM, initiating a daily program that runs until Sunday, September 20th, from 12 PM to 11 PM. The festival aims to bring Madeiran identity and heritage closer to the capital's population, serving as a space for meeting and sharing.

Daniel Gonçalves, president of the Avenidas Novas Parish Council, stated that the festival is an opportunity to bring "to the heart of Lisbon the culture, traditions, and identity of a Region that is inextricably part of Portugal's history and cultural diversity," emphasizing culture's role in connecting territories.
